Summary

Argonne National Laboratory conducted a historic facility inventory and evaluation on behalf of the United States Air Force at Edwards Air Force Base, Kern County, California. The inventory and evaluation aids Edwards Air Force Base in managing the historic properties under its jurisdiction as required by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. The inventory evaluated extant portions of a government-owned railroad and associated buildings on post. As a result of this study, it is recommended that none of the buildings, facilities, or archaeological sites examined are eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The railroad grade and associated structures served basic transportation and supply needs of the installation during World War II and the Cold War Era and do not relate to significant World War II or Cold War Era themes for the military in California.
