Summary
Argonne National Laboratory conducted a historic building inventory and evaluation on behalf of the United States Air Force at Luke Air Force Base, Maricopa County, Arizona and Fort Tuthill Recreation Area, Coconino County, Arizona. The inventory evaluated 37 buildings and facilities at Luke Air Force Base and one building located at the Fort Tuthill Recreation Area, which is owned by the United States Air Force and managed by Luke Air Force Base. The 38 buildings and structures evaluated are military operations and support facilities built during the Cold War Era (1946–1991). This evaluation aids Luke Air Force Base in managing historic properties under their jurisdiction as required by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. The 38 properties evaluated were recommended as not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places because they do not characterize the Cold War mission at Luke Air Force Base, and they are not associated with specific Cold War events and/or important people. Thus, the 38 structures lack the significance required under the National Register of Historic Places criteria for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
