LET-317: VAFB Request for SHPO Concurrence for Construction of the Waste Water Treatment Plant at the Vandenberg Tracking Station on Vandenberg Air Force Base, California
Author(s): Daryl G. Atwood
Year: 1990
Summary
This document is a letter from the Department of the Air Force to the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) requesting concurrence with a No Adverse Effect Determination for the construction of the Waste Water Treatment Plant at the Vandenberg Tracking Station on Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The project will construct a new waste water treatment plant next to an existing one, which it will replace. One archaeological site, SBA-793, previously determined eligible for the National Register in consultation with the SHPO Office, will be affected. The effects testing document for this project, VAFB-1990-13, is attached for review. Three 1 x 1/2 meter units were excavated during the effects testing. The excavated deposit did not contain any new or unique classes of data when compared with the results of previous testing programs at this location so the Air Force is of the opinion that the excavated sample and the analysis and documentation which have been completed for this area of SBA-793 are sufficient to mitigate any adverse effects resulting from the proposed project action and the Air Force believes this testing program fulfills the requirements of Section 106 and that no further archaeological work, other than construction monitoring, will be necessary.
