Year: 1988

Summary

This document is a Section 106 transmittal letter to the California State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) regarding the Small ICBM and Peacekeeper Rail Garrison Test Programs at Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB). The letter briefly describes the undertaking and includes an attached report that discusses the archaeological survey and testing project that was conducted in support of the undertaking. The report ultimately supports the opinion of VAFB that rather evaluating each individual resource within the project area, and that rather a district should be developed for the management of these resources. Therefore, the letter seeks SHPO concurrence for the determination of eligibility for the proposed district that has been named the San Antonio Terrace Archaeological District (SATAD). The letter continues with the delineation of the SATAD and provides justification for its boundaries. The letter also includes an attachment consisting of an appendix that lists all the archaeological sites associated with the SATAD as well as the site records for each resource along with a map of the project area and the proposed district boundary.
