VAFBM-1985-24: Archaeological Monitoring During Installation of Communications Cable, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California

Year: 1985

Summary

This study was conducted to monitor, identify unknown archaeological sites, and evaluate cultural resources which were potentially affected by the emplacement of a buried fiber optics cable on VAFB. During a previous study, nine archaeological sites had been identified in the APEI. Of these nine, five were in the ROW of the cable line: CA-SBA-512, 513, 941, 1853, and 1866. Monitoring of cable emplacement within or immediately adjacent to these sites confirmed previous assessments of low or no integrity for the affected areas. Some minor beneficial information was obtained as a result of this project, primarily regarding further definition of site boundaries. No previously unknown archaeological sites were discovered during the course of this investigation. There were no adverse effects as a result of the cable installation project on cultural resources.
