A Class III Cultural Resources Survey of 40.0 Acres in Support of the Eagle Mountain Trespass, Salt River-Pima Maricopa Indian Community, Maricopa County, Arizona

Summary

A portion of a Salt River Project (SRP) buried utility line and associated equipment cabinets were constructed on the northern boundary of the Community without approval from SRP-MIC. As a result of the trespass, SRP contracted with North Wind Resource Consulting, LLC (North Wind) to conduct a Class III cultural resources survey of approximately 40.0 acres of undeveloped land.

The survey was conducted to determine if significant cultural resources are within the trespass area. Important cultural resources may include historic or prehistoric archaeological sites or objects, historically or architecturally significant structures, buildings, or landscapes. The survey was done in support of SRP-MIC EPNR Project #22-201-015, in order for SRP to acquire an approximately 600 by 8-foot right-of-way from SRP-MIC.

Salt River Ordinance 102-86 requires identification and treatment of archaeological resources endangered by proposed construction activities on the SRP-MIC. The project is considered an undertaking requiring compliance with Section 106 of the NHPA, which requires a federal agency to consider the effects of its undertakings on historic properties (cultural resources eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places [NRHP]).
