Cultural Resources Survey of 160 Acres North of the Abel Substation Site, Southeast of Queen Creek, Pinal County, Arizona

Author(s): Elizabeth A. Bagwell

Year: 2008

Summary

This report presents the results of a Class III cultural resources survey of 160.3 acres of privately owned land (Parcel 210-38-001A) located southeast of the Town of Queen Creek in Pinal County, Arizona. The work was requested by Salt River Project (SRP) as part of its internal Phase 1 Environmental Assessment prior to purchasing the two parcels. The purpose of the survey was to determine if significant cultural resources were present within the property.

The field survey was conducted on 1 May 2008, by Dr. Elizabeth A. Bagwell, Connie Darby, and Sandra Wadsworth of Desert Archaeology, Inc. A total of 3 person days was expended in the field effort. Dr. Kathleen Henderson served as Principal Investigator for the project. Although the surveyed land is private and no archaeological permit is required, Desert Archaeology holds a current Arizona Antiquities blanket permit (Permit No. 2008-001bl) for conducting non-collection surveys within the state. The survey recorded one archaeological site, AZ U:15:583 (ASM), and seven isolated occurrences that included both historic and prehistoric artifacts. The newly identified site, a historic trash dump, is judged to be ineligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
