Summary

Requirements for the management of archaeological resources on federally owned and managed lands have been set forth in the National Historic Preservation Act (Public Law 89-665, as amended), the Archeological and Historic Preservation Act (Public Law 86-532), the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (Public Law 96-96, as amended), the National Environmental Policy Act (Public Law 91-190), and Executive Order 11593. The regulatory processes designed to implement these acts established mechanisms to both promote agency compliance and insure that significant resources are identified and protected. This report is the first step in the development of a program to manage potentially significant archaeological sites within the jurisdiction of Keesler Air Force Base.
