Cultural Resource Survey of A Fiber-Optic Cable Project In Burlington and Ocean Counties New Jersey
Author(s): Michael Alterman
Year: 1988
Summary
Louis Berger & Associates, Inc.’s Cultural Resource Group completed Phase I archeological survey in support of Private Transatlantic Telecommunications System, Inc.’s proposed underground fiber optic cable line between Camden and Manasquan. As proposed, a five-mile segment of the project corridor occupied the alignment of the former Pemberton-Hightstown Railroad which traverses a section of Fort Dix in Pemberton Township and Wrightstown Borough, Burlington County. This study was completed in accordance with Section 106 of NHPA and New Jersey Pinelands Commission guidelines for cultural resources surveys.
The survey completed field reconnaissance and excavated five judgmentally positioned postholes within the Fort Dix segment (Segment 1) of the project corridor. Posthole excavations documented disturbed soils and did not recover any cultural material
