Summary
On behalf of the U.S. Army, AMEC E&C Services, Inc. completed a geophysical survey within the area of potential effects for a proposed 0.86-acre parking lot adjacent to 4465 Texas Avenue within Fort Dix, New Hanover Township, Burlington County. This study was completed to support a Phase I archaeological survey in accordance with Section 106 of NHPA and NJHPO guidelines for archaeological survey.
Completed in August 2004, field investigations included remote sensing survey using ground penetrating radar (GPR) and a cesium vapor magnetometer. The study site consisted of a 150ft x 250ft area along Texas Avenue within Ft. Dix. Several anomalies were observed in the GPR data that may warrant further investigation. While some linear anomalies do exist in the data, they are unlikely to be the result of man-made structures, such as building foundations or circular shaft features. Anomaly 2 may be of interest because of its depth (approx 4 ft), and the fact that it correlates with a very large magnetic anomaly ("D").
For archaeological field records, including STP log, artifact inventory, soil profiles, and maps, see the Draft Phase I archaeological survey report, tDAR Report #438618.
