This is an abstract from the session entitled "Paper / Report Submission (General Sessions)", at the 2023 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.

Today more people reach old age than ever before and it is providing us with new challenges and options. The aged persons have been around before our times as well and in this changing world it is important to understand the past of aging and how it affected individuals and society back then.

This paper is about older adults and the transition in to old age in the past via burials and historical archive material. Archive material is used as well as the earlier research concerning aging is also used to bring a deeper perspective in the subject.
