Summary

This is an abstract from the session entitled "Paper / Report Submission (General Sessions)", at the 2023 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.

Northwest Florida encompasses unique maritime natural-cultural resources that have played major roles in the development of North America and its history. These resources contribute to tourism, education and recreation, and therefore, are important for Florida's socioeconomic development. As at the state level, Florida is conducting an economic assessment of the impact of SLR and flooding on the state’s resources, this study is focusing on the impact of flooding on the cultural resources in Northwest Florida to inform the stakeholders about the risks that threaten some of the significant cultural resources in the area. The study uses the same scenarios and factors that the Florida Legislature Office of Economic and Demographic Research has identified to assess other resources, along with information gathered from the Florida Public Archaeology Network's HMS Program, and the Florida Master Site File. The results highlight the sites that are at risk by flooding factors within 50 year.
