A Historic Context for Roosevelt Irrigation District Zanjero Houses, State Route 85, Buckeye, Maricopa County, Arizona
Author(s): Scott Solliday
Year: 2009
Summary
The Arizona Depa1iment of Transportation (ADOT) acquired new right-of-way along State Route (SR) 85 to preserve the corridor for future expansion. As part of the acquisition process, ADOT razed two structures-a Roosevelt Irrigation District (RID) Zanjero house and associated outbuilding.
The project is State funded and therefore subject to compliance with the Arizona Antiquities Act (A.R.S. §15- 1631 and §41- 841, et seq.) and the Arizona Historic Preservation Act (A.R.S. §41-861, et seq.) which require state agencies to take into consideration the effects of their actions on historic properties. The structures are believed to have been built in or around 1928, making them historic, and subject to evaluation for the National Register of Historic Places (National Register).
