Summary

In the spring, 1996, Mesa Community College (MCC) undertook the second year of a field school at AZ U:10:1(ASU). The site is located in Maricopa County on land owned by the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community (Community). The field school was conducted with the permission of the Community under a permit issued by the Cultural and Environmental Services Division of the Community Development Department. The Bureau of Indian Affairs issued an Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA) permit. MCC thanks the Community for allowing the field school to be conducted on their land. Access to the property was provided by Salt River Project (SRP) who own land along the Southern Canal. SRP also allowed the field school to store equipment in a fenced enclosure near the site. MCC is grateful to SRP for their support of this undertaking and to the Community for providing permission and support. The field school was overseen by Dr. Shereen Lerner, faculty at MCC and Mr. Sam Baar, Chairman of the Southwest Archaeology Team. The field school was conducted from February 3 through May 4, 1996.
