Author(s): Andrew I. Duff

Year: 1993

Summary

Between August 23 and September 3, 1993, Archaeological Research Services, Inc., conducted a cultural resources survey of a 9.17 mile long segment of U.S. Route 60 right-of-way for the Arizona Department of Transportation in Pinal County, Arizona. The survey area consisted of a 200 ft wide corridor centered on U.S. 60 from mileposts 212.0 to 220.17 and 222.5 to 223.5. The approximately 222.3 acre project area (182.3 acres excluding paved portions) consisted of existing Arizona Department of Transportation owned right-of-way and Arizona Department of Transportation right-of-way across Tonto National Forest lands.

The survey was requested by the Arizona Department of Transportation as part of a proposed pavement preservation project (Project No. F-022-3(76); Tracs #060 PN 212 H3234 01C) along U.S. 60 from just west of the U.S. 60/ U.S. 89 junction (Florence Junction) at the west end (milepost 212) to milepost 223.5 (in the vicinity of the Boyce Thompson Arboretum), and was conducted in order to determine if important cultural resources, which could be eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places, occur within the study area.
