Inventory and Evaluation of the C. C. Cragin Project (formerly Blue Ridge Project), Coconino and Gila Counties, Arizona

Summary

This report presents the results of an inventory and assessment of eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) of the C. C. Cragin Project (Project), formerly known as the Morenci Water Development-Blue Ridge Project, or Blue Ridge Dam. The Project is located in Coconino and Tonto National Forests, Coconino and Gila Counties, Arizona, and is positioned on the Mogollon Rim of northern Arizona, approximately 23 miles north-northeast of Payson. The Mogollon Rim is an escarpment angling diagonally across north-central Arizona for a distance of approximately 200 miles, marking the boundary of the Colorado Plateau and the Arizona Transition Zone. The dam itself is founded in the Coconino Sandstone geologic unit. Kaibab Limestone caps the Coconino Sandstone unit in a horizontal contact zone about 25 feet below the crest of the dam (U.S. Bureau of Reclamation [Reclamation] 2018).
