Summary

This ICRMP was developed to provide for effective management and protection of cultural resources. It summarizes the history and prehistory of the installation and reviews past historical and archaeological survey efforts. It outlines and assigns responsibilities for the management of cultural resources, discusses related concerns, and provides standard operating procedures (SOPs) that will help to manage or preserve the cultural resources of the installation within the context of the mission.

A complete inventory of cultural resources on CCSFS has been conducted, including both archaeological and historic building surveys. No pre-contact or historic archaeological resources are recorded on the installation, and buildings are largely confined to structures of the Cold War era (1946-1989). Ten buildings were constructed at CCSFS during this period (Appendix B), and two of them (Building 2 and Building 4) have been included in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as contributing elements to the historic Pave PAWS radar network.
