An Archaeological Clearance Survey of Four Well Pads and an Associated Access Road on Bureau of Land Management, Holloman Air Force Base, and State Trust Land in Otero County, New Mexico

Part of the Holloman Air Force Base Resources project

Year: 1993

Summary

Report and SHPO correspondence for archaeological clearance survey to drill three new wells, use one existing well location, and establish an access road west of Lake Holloman and Lake Stinky in Otero County, New Mexico. Sergio Mendez conducted an intensive survey on a total of 1.0 ha (2.4 acres), consisting of land administered by Holloman AFB; the Bureau of Land Management, Caballo Resource Area, Las Cruces District; and State Land Office. During the archaeological survey, two isolated occurrences were recorded: one chert flake and a 7-Up bottle. The research potential of these occurrences is thought to have been fully exhausted with recordation. The project is expected to have no effect on significant cultural resources. Therefore, archaeological clearance is recommended for the well pads and access road.
