Summary

The investigation consisted of a literature search and a linear pedestrian field survey (with an interval of 10 m) of the proposed Santa Fe trail route through USAFA (8.3 linear miles). The investigation located nine previously unrecorded resources : one historic isolated find; five prehistoric isolated finds; one historic site; and two sites with both historic and prehistoric components. For the prehistoric resources, no diagnostic artifacts were discovered and no cultural affiliations could be assigned. For the historic resources, themes relate to railroading activities and to early agriculture. None of the cultural resources inventoried by this investigation is considered eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).The investigators recommend further testing of one of the resources prior to a final consideration of eligibility.
