Summary
This report is prepared by the Martin Marietta Corporation (MMC) for the US Air Force to document the Environmental Surveillance activities performed under Contract No. F04701-83-C-0032. Contributing archaeological support is provided by Harmsworth Associates under contract to MMC.
The environmental surveillance procedure continually evolves as results of field surveillance provide additional information on impacts of the Vandenberg Space Shuttle Program upon environmental resources of the area. It is the intent of this procedure to monitor selected aspects of environmental quality, to document and analyze changes in quality, and to record environmental inspection activities as related to construction of Space Transportation System (STS) facilities. Through this procedure, the environmental surveillance program ensures compliance with government regulations and facilities implementation of prescribed mitigation measures. This report (ESR 21) describes the implementation of the Environmental Surveillance Plan for the STS Program at VAFB and is a continuation of ESR reports No. 1-20.
Construction activities requiring environmental monitoring continued at the V-17 Visual Landing Aids (PAPI), FY'84 Physical Security Modifications, the Security Patrol Roads, and began at the SLC-6 parking lot, waste treatment (percolation) ponds, V-33 Harbor and Towroute, Temporary Storage Facility, Skyscreen Van Transmission Line (Honda Point), repeater stations, Fiber Optics Cable, COE parking lot (trailer/laydown area) and communication lines of Santa Ynez Ridge Road/Tangair Road as well as to the meteorological tower.
Specific details on the archaeological surveys, testing, and monitoring are included in the status reports (appendices).
