VAFB-1988-07: RE: Results of Archaeological Monitoring of Geotechnical Exploration at the Proposed Space Launch Complex 7 (SLC 7) Project Area, Vandenberg Air Force Base

Author(s): Jason Marmor

Year: 1988

Summary

This document is a monitoring report describing archaeological observation of geotechnical core drilling at the proposed project site of Space Launch Complex 7 (SLC-7). Monitoring of soil core extraction at selected locations was recommended as a result of an earlier intensive cultural resources survey of the SLC 7 project area. During the course of the project a number of lithic artifacts including possibly utilized flakes were observed on the surface in the vicinity of the terrace top just west of as well as along the western edge of the unnamed drainage which forms the eastern border of the SLC 7 project site. These appear to be associated with the other isolated artifacts discovered during the 1987 intensive survey and may represent evidence of aboriginal activity contemporaneous with or possibly more recent than that associated with CA-SBA-1117.
