Summary

This document is a report that describes archaeological survey of the remaining unsurveyed areas of Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB) was performed by Chambers Group and its principal subcontractor (SAIC). A total of 63,600 acres were surveyed. Of this total, 5,172 acres ( or 8 percent) were surveyed opportunistically. During the survey, 581 prehistoric sites, 11 historic sites, and 8 sites with both prehistoric and historic components were recorded, making 600 new sites recorded on VAFB. In addition, 152 previously recorded sites were updated, and 401 isolates were inventoried. During previous surveys 744 sites were recorded. These sites combined with the new sites makes a total of 1,344 sites recorded on the base as of October 1996.
