Year: 2021
Summary
This document is a Section 106 transmittal letter from the 30th Space Wing (30 SW) of the United States Space Force (USSF) at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California to the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians (SYBCI) to continue consultation for the proposed Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) Test Program that would develop and test a new ICBM system to modernize the United States land-based nuclear arsenal for the purposes of replacing the nation's existing Minuteman II ICBM system. 30 SW determined that the proposed GBSD Test Program is an undertaking subject to compliance with Section 106 [codified at 54 USC 306108] of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended [54 USC 300101 et seq: Historic Preservation] and as such, will comply with Section 106 using the implementing regulations [Title 36 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 800] by continuing consultation with the SYBCI. Details of the reasonable and good-faith cultural resources investigation carried out by 30 SW are provided as an attachment to this letter. 30 SW reached a Section 106 finding of adverse effect to historic properties for this undertaking and requests that the Tribe express comments or concerns they may have about cultural resources with regard to the proposed undertaking, and the resolution of adverse effects to four resources as described in this letter.
