Summary
Peterson Air Force Base hosted the first biannual tribal relations meeting in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on 25 and 26 April 2017 to establish a foundation for dialogue and government-to-government consultation. The first of its kind, six Air Force installations participated in this meeting: Peterson Air Force Base; Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station; Schriever Air Force Base; Buckley Air Force Base; F.E. Warren Air Force Base; and the U.S. Air Force Academy.
The meeting format was designed to encourage interactions between the tribes and Air Force personnel in order to establish foundational relationships. Commanders from each installation pre-sented an overview of their base missions, histories, and resources during the morning and early afternoon on the first day. During these presentations, tribal representatives were encouraged to raise questions and concerns. Following these presentations, tribal representatives were provided time to visit each installation booth, where a variety of installation representatives were available to answer questions, provide additional information, and engage in one-on-one conversations with tribal representatives. Additionally, time was reserved during the first afternoon for a round table discussion.
