Summary
Report Abstract:
Archeological investigations were conducted at the David Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Centers in Carderock and Annapolis, Maryland during the summer of 1983. No National Register eligible archeological resources were present at the Carderock Laboratory, however, there are four buildings that are considered to be eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
No buildings which are eligible for listing on the National Register are present at the Annapolis Laboratory. There is, however, an important archeological site, Fort Nonsense, a small earthen fortification. Archeological investigations indicate a nineteenth-century construction date, but historic documents suggest that it dates to the eighteenth century. The fort, most likely a redoubt, underwent some recontouring, probably in the late nineteenth century. Further investigations are recommended if the fortification will be disturbed by future construction activities. The site is considered to be eligible for listing on the National Register.
