Summary

This government generated Section 106 report is a historic property inventory and an assessment of adverse effects associated with the U.S. Space Command Headquarters Basing and Construction Project. The purpose of the document is to compile any prior or current studies performed in support of the U.S. Space Command Headquarters Basing and Construction project as a single Section 106 report. This report provides the information needed by the California State Historic Preservation Officer to concur on the project findings and determinations for individual resources as presented by the Vandenberg Air Force Base Cultural Resource Manager. Research and fieldwork were carried out by AECOM personnel based in San Diego, California, on behalf of Air Force Space Command, with additional assistance from architectural historian Josh Smallwood of the Center for the Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). The results of the study are reported in this report. The AECOM-authored report, including maps and Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) recording forms, is attached as Appendix A. The report specifically examines project impacts and/or avoidance strategies for fifteen built environment resources; Facilities 6523, 7000, 7403, 7414, 7420, 7425, 7430, 7437, 7525, 8190, 8195, 8305, 8310, 8312, and 10577.
