Summary

This document is a letter continuing Section 106 consultation with the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians (SYBCI) for the B7 and B9 power lines on Vandenberg Space Force Base. The original project design called for the subsurface burial of approximately 1/4 of the B7 line and 1/8 of the B9 line. The project design as altered and the newly proposed lines call for approximately 100% of the B7 line to be routed underground and approximately 2/3 of the B9 line to be subsurface. The letter provides images to show the previous plan in relation to the newly proposed design. The letter from the Department of the Air Force (DAF) also explains that while no archaeological testing is being conducted for the new plan, all ground disturbing activities will be monitored by an archaeological monitor. The letter conveys that any observation of a significant archaeological deposit will result in additional consultation in order to develop a path forward. The letter ultimately seeks comment from the SYBCI to ensure that any and all Tribal concerns are appropriately addressed.
