Summary

This document is a standalone report included as Appendix G of the Union Oil / Exxon Project Shamrock and Central Santa Maria Basin Area Study EIS/EIR. The report discussed cultural resources for the proposed pipelines linking offshore oil platforms with onshore processing facilities. The report includes definitions of onshore/offshore cultural resources, Native American Cultural values, resource/regional study areas, and relevant laws. Onshore resources are separated into prehistoric and historic resources with considerable attention paid to direct, indirect, and cumulative effects of the project components. Native American Cultural values sections include substantial ethnohistoric information, including botanical resources, spiritual sites, and village size/locations. Offshore resources cover the many shipwrecks and wharf remains present along the VAFB coastline.
