VAFB-2025-10: Condition Assessment of Rock Art Sites on Vandenberg Space Force Base Fiscal Year 2024
Author(s): Robert Newcomb
Year: 2025
Summary
This document is the Fiscal Year 2024 rock art sites condition assessment report. It examines the condition of 14 rock art sites on Vandenberg Space Force Base. The report also discusses potential sacred site designations and then presents a summary of the results of condition assessments at each of the 14 rock art sites. The results are split into two sections: Chapter 3 discusses sites where annual monitoring occurs, and Chapter 4 discusses sites where condition was assessed quarterly. Full condition assessment reports for each site are attached in Appendices A and B. Condition assessments focused on rock art site areas experiencing significant impacts or areas where the risk of impacts is high. Additionally, recommended management strategies offered in the condition assessment forms focus on ongoing processes that can affect
the rock art or the integrity of adjacent rock surfaces that could alter conditions enough to affect the art panels.
