Summary

Site 33DE441, a stratified, multi-component site, is situated within floodplain alluvium in a cornfield on the northwest side of the Maumee River in the City of Defiance. Three major components were identified at the site. Late Archaic, Late Woodland, and Late Prehistoric occupations were defined by diagnostic projectile points, pottery, and radiocarbon dates. The site is bisected by a broad drainage swale containing wet areas that likely functioned to trap pollen that may be well-preserved. Pollen analysis of four samples, comprising a stratigraphic sequence in this area, probably represent the cultural periods evident at this site.
