Eglin Air Force Base Site Stabilization on Santa Rosa Sound Management Summary: Santa Rosa Island Dune Restoration
Summary
This project is a restoration project on Eglin Air Force Base (Eglin AFB) property, along the northern shore of the Santa Rosa Sound. Sand fencing was installed at predetermined sites to help trap sand movement to build dunes. Native dune plants were planted to help retain the sand on the restored dunes. The sand fencing was needed to stabilize dune conditions at known archaeological sites that are at risk due to exposure, erosion, and shifting. Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA) proposed to undertake this work, conforming to the most efficient and effective restoration science practices.
