Archaeological Survey, Burma Road Bridge Replacement, Fort A.P. Hill (AP2012.001)

Summary

The Fort A.P. Hill Cultural Resource Manager, under the Environmental Division of the Directorate of Public Works within Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, has completed Phase I archaeological survey in association with the replacement of an existing bridge at Fort A.P. Hill, Caroline County, Virginia. The project includes the removal of an extant steel beam bridge with wood deck and timber piles on Mount Creek and the construction of a new bridge at that same location. The area of potential effect for the undertaking includes 0.2 hectares (0.5 acres) at the Burma Road bridge site, and the linear road distance for the project includes 80 meters (262 feet or 0.05 miles).

The objective of the archaeological survey was to identify any historic properties that may be located within the APE and evaluate the potential eligibility of any such resources for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. No artifacts, archaeological sites, intact cultural features, or intact cultural deposits were identified in the APE during the survey.

This project includes the report, photo log and photographs from the survey.
