Pine Grove Site (12MO183) 1987
Summary
The USACE, Louisville District obtained the collection through an archaeological test excavation at the Pine Grove Site, Lake Monroe Reservoir in 1987. Limited excavations at the Pine Grove Site (12MO183) were done by GBL in contract with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Divisions of Reservoirs. A possible Paleoindian component, continuing severe erosion, and the discovery of four pothunter holes prompted the site investigation. The fieldwork was conducted under the supervision Patrick J. Munson from July 30 to October 1986 and consisted of hand excavation of trenches to assess the integrity of the archaeological deposits. The test excavations demonstrated that the Pine Grove site contained relatively sparse amounts of Late Archaic Period artifacts (Myers and Munson 1987). The site is identified using the conventional trinomial system; the county symbol MO represents Monroe County, Indiana.
The digital materials in this collection were processed by the Veterans Curation Program (VCP), and include the artifact database, artifact report, archival photographs, finding aid, oversized material database, photographic material database, scanned asset key, and select artifact photographs. Additional digital materials held by the VCP include the archaeological feature record, document folder listing, additional artifact photographs, initial data collection, maps, notes, original investigation report, oversized material labels, records removal sheet, sketches, and trench summaries.
