Coosa River Profile 1915

Summary

The Veterans Curation Program utilizes the standard archival practice of unique naming of collections. Therefore, this collection is referred to as "Coosa River Profile 1915.” This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The document collection includes two portions of a profile of the Coosa River, which were mailed to the St. Louis District and then transported to the Augusta lab by Andrea Adams. The extent of this collection is approximately six (6) linear inches when it is rolled. For final housing, the profiles were wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and placed in an acid-free box. A special box was created to better fit the document, and this box was returned to the Mobile District via mail.

The Coosa River Profile 1915 document collection consisted of two oversized items. The first portion of the profile measured 11.5 inches (width) by 691 inches (57.6 feet, length). The second section measured 11.5 inches (width) by 687 inches (57.25 feet, length).

The profile was rolled and in fair to poor condition due to acidification and tearing. Both items were unrolled so that the item could be digitized, and then rolled for permanent storage. Minimal cleaning and mending was performed to preserve the document, because it was determined that many of these techniques would adversely affect the document. Tape was present, but it was not removed. The document was unrolled only a few times to minimize further damage. Digital photography was used to capture an electronic copy of the scroll. Several photographs were taken and then stitched together to create one file.

The digital materials in this collection were processed by the Veterans Curation Program (VCP), and include the finding aid, original survey sheets 1 and 2, oversized material spreadsheet, and scanned asset key. Additional digital materials held by the VCP include the document folder listing, initial data collection, notes, oversized material labels, and records removal sheets. For additional information on these materials, refer to the finding aid.
