Archaeological Survey of East Lynn Reservoir 1964-1965
Summary
Under contract to the National Park Service, the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey undertook an archaeological survey for cultural resources in the East Lynn Reservoir, Wayne County, West Virginia (McMichael and Mairs 1965). The principal investigators were Edward McMichael and Oscar Mairs. Fieldwork was conducted in June 1964 and April 1965. The investigation consisted of an intensive survey and shovel testing of the areas to be flooded within the East Lynn Reservoir. Fifteen sites were discovered during this survey (sites 46WA1- 46WA15). Five sites within the East Lynn Reservoir are represented in this artifact collection. Based on the final report, the survey and test pitting was completed on the area to be flooded by the East Lynn Reservoir, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Huntington District (McMichael and Mairs 1965).
The digital materials in this collection were processed by the Veterans Curation Program (VCP), and include an artifact report, an artifact database, a finding aid, an original investigation report, an oversized material spreadsheet, a scanned asset key, and select artifact photographs. Additional digital materials held by the VCP include correspondence, a document folder listing, initial data collection, notes, oversized labels, a map, and a record removal sheet. For additional information on these materials, refer to the finding aid.
