Historic Building Inventory and Evaluation for Eglin Air Force Base, Okaloosa County, Florida

Summary

This effort presents the results and details of a historic building inventory and evaluation conducted on behalf of the United States Department of the Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base, Okaloosa County, Florida. This evaluation aids Eglin Air Force Base in managing the historic properties under its jurisdiction, as required by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. The inventory, conducted in July 2023, documented 12 facilities at Eglin Air Force Base and evaluated them for historical significance against the criteria established for listing a property in the National Register of Historic Places. The facilities addressed in this inventory were built between 1956 and 1986 during the Cold War Era. Four of the facilities were previously unevaluated; as a result of the current study, these facilities do not meet the criteria and are therefore recommended not eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. The eight remaining facilities were previously evaluated as not eligible; however, the facilities have been re-evaluated in this study due to a subsequent boundary change to the existing Range A-22 Historic District. As a result of this study, two facilities are recommended not eligible because they no longer retained sufficient integrity or historical significance to meet any of the criteria. The remaining six facilities are recommended eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion A as contributing elements to the Range A-22 Historic District.
