MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AND AMS RADIOCARBON DATING OF A HEARTH AT SITE 5RB5596, WESTERN COLORADO (2007)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Kathryn Puseman.

The fill from a fire hearth at Site 5RB5596 in western Colorado was examined for macrofloral remains to provide subsistence information concerning plant resources utilized by the prehistoric occupants of this site. Charcoal from the hearth fill also was identified and processed for AMS radiocarbon analysis to identify woods burned as fuel and an age of occupation.

MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT THE RIFLE WICKIUP VILLAGE, SITE 5GF308, WESTERN COLORADO (2004)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Kathryn Puseman.

Fill from the west half of a hearth in a Ute wickiup at the Rifle Wickiup Village, site 5GF308, was floated to recover charred macrofloral remains that would indicate plant resources processed in the hearth. A wood fragment believed to represent a fuel source also was submitted for identification. Site 5GF308 is located northeast of Rifle, Colorado. This site is reported to contain more than 60 structures, most of which are the remains of Ute wickiups.

MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF A SINGLE FEATURE FROM 5MN1920, COLORADO (2000)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Kathryn Puseman.

Fill from a possible thermal feature (Feature 1) at 5MN1920 in western Colorado was floated to recover charred macrofloral remains. This feature yielded an uncalibrated radiocarbon age of 1510 +/- 70 BP (Beta-145806), suggesting occupation during the Formative Era. Macrofloral analysis is used to provide information concerning plant resources utilized by the occupants of this site.

MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF FEATURES FROM 5ME12315, COLORADO (2000)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Kathryn Puseman.

Sediment from two features at Site 5ME12315 in western Colorado were floated to recover macrofloral remains. These features consist of a layer of fire-cracked sandstone rock with very dark black sediment below. It is possible that these features are not Cultural, but rather represent natural trees burned in place. Macrofloral analysis will be used to provide information concerning the nature of the features. Charcoal from one of the features also is to be submitted for radiocarbon dating.

MORPHOMETRIC ANALYSIS (PHYTOLITH AND COB MEASUREMENTS) OF A CORN COB FROM A FREMONT GRANARY AT 5MF2723, WESTERN COLORADO (2001)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Kathryn Puseman. Linda Scott Cummings.

An uncharred corn cob from 5MF2723 in western Colorado was submitted for phytolith analysis. Measurements were taken prior to analysis and a portion of the cob was submitted for radiocarbon analysis. This cob is associated with a slab-lined cist (granary) located inside a small opening in the rocks above the Green River in the Gates of LaDore Canyon. This cob yielded an uncalibrated radiocarbon age of 700 ± 30 years BP (CAMS-79943), indicating a Fremont occupation. Phytolith analysis...

DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda J. Scott.

Palynological analysis at the DeBeque Rockshelter (SME82) in western Colorado was undertaken in conjunction with archaeological mitigation of the site. The pollen samples were taken from most of the levels identified in the fill from four grid locations within the rockshelter, and are combined to form a composite pollen diagram. The pollen samples were taken from both cultural and sterile levels, but no pollen samples were taken in direct association with cultural features such as hearths. ...
