Similarities between contemporaneous occupations from the Promontory Caves in Utah and Franktown Cave in eastern Colorado provide evidence of a pre-A.D. 1300 migration of proto-Apachean speakers into the Rocky Mountain west using both Intermontane and Plains margin migration routes. A flaked lithic stone tool and an associated soil control were submitted for protein residue analysis from site 32DU621, located in North Dakota. Because of the potential age of this tool, antisera from Pleistocene mammals were added to the suite of antisera used for testing.
