Hrísheimar 2004, Interim Report (field report) (2005)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Uploaded by: Tol Cherry

The excavations at Hrísheimar have now been in progress for four years. The focus of the work for the first two years was more on surveying and test trenching for assessment than large scale excavation. In 2003 and 2004 the work increased with the opening of two large excavation areas. In 2003 there were two main excavation areas; one was approximately 60 m west of the farm mound; the other was just by the farm mound on its eastern side. The areas were individually sub-divided and each was given...

Hrísheimar 2005, Interim Report (field report) (2006)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Ragnar Edvarsson. Thomas McGovern.

The excavations at Hrísheimar have now been in progress for five years (2000-05) and this report presents the preliminary results of the 2005 season. The site area is at the edge of the active erosion front in this part of Mývatnssveit, and clearly much of the original land surface and archaeological deposits have been destroyed completely by wind erosion. However the site has proven to be surprisingly productive and continued investigations have opened up some unexpected new...

Hrísheimar 2006, Interim report (field report) (2007)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Uploaded by: Tol Cherry

In 2006 excavations in Units E and L cleared midden from three structures dating to the early Viking Age, and completed excavations in the southern half of the 2005 exposure (ca 50 sq m), taking this area down to the Landnám tephra sequence (LNS). These structures are; C a sunken featured structure (pit house), D a latrine, and S a shallow depression bounded by post holes possibly representing a very early hut or tent structure. The establishment of a secure chronology connecting...
