Tree-Rings Tales from Tijeras Pueblo (2019)
This is an abstract from the "Archaeology, Cultural Heritage, and Public Education at Tijeras Pueblo, New Mexico" session, at the 84th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology. This paper describes how Linda Cordell, working with colleagues, including me, used building timbers to (1) date room construction and village occupation at Tijeras Pueblo, (2) understand villager’s choices about wood use, (3) describe changing climate conditions associated with the village’s occupation,...
Trek Up the River: A Cobble Tool Technology as Clue to Interior California's Antiquity (2019)
This is an abstract from the "SAA 2019: General Sessions" session, at the 84th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology. An early quartzite cobble lithic technology is evidenced by a multi-site pattern of datasets including waste cores and tools with highly patinated flake scars on remains deeply embedded in the natural desert pavement of the Pleistocene shorelines along the Lower Colorado River (LCR). Reduction technology is represented at Vista del Lago (CA-SBr-1456) located...
Trenches to Rafters: The Archaeology and Architecture of Francois Valle II's Ste. Genevieve Home (2019)
This is an abstract from the "POSTER Session 3: Material Culture and Site Studies" session, at the 2019 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology. This poster details the history of a previously unexamined French Colonial poteaux sur sol structure in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. Contrary to local oral histories, archaeological evidence from the Sangamo Archeological Center’s 2017 and 2018 excavations indicate that this building was once much grander than the now-modest structure...
Trenching South of the Grand Canal at Pueblo Grande, Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona (1993)
At the request of Janice Cunningham of U.S. West Communication (US West), Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd. (ACS) performed subsurface testing along a proposed utility (fiber optic communication cable) right-of-way. The right-of-way will be located within the southern access road for the Grand Canal, which passes through Pueblo Grande Historic Landmark (Pueblo Grande). The canal is owned by the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) and administered by the Salt River Project (SRP)....
Trends and Perspectives: Heritage At Risk (HARC) (2019)
This is an abstract from the "Trends and Perspectives: Heritage At Risk (HARC)" session, at the 2019 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology. Wind, flood, and fire are affecting archaeological sites at seemingly greater rates than previously recorded. Cultural resource managers, researchers, and government agencies are dealing with the effect of stronger and more violent storms on cultural heritage as they try to map and protect archaeological sites both on land and...
Trends in Paleoindian Projectile Point Technology during the Pleistocene-Holocene Transition at the Old River Bed Delta, UT (2018)
The fossil Old River Bed delta, located in the Great Salt Lake Desert, UT, contains one of the highest concentrations of Paleoindian archaeology within the Great Basin. Occupied from 13,000 cal B.P. until its desiccation around 9,500 cal B.P., this productive marshland provided a wide array of dietary resources utilized by the region’s inhabitants during the Pleistocene-Holocene transition. However, changes in climate, local hydrology, and human populations during this dynamic period likely...
Trends in Prehistoric Tool-Stone Use in the Upper Mojave Desert of Eastern California (2023)
This is an abstract from the "SAA 2023: Individual Abstracts" session, at the 88th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology. The upper Mojave Desert of eastern California is bounded by the transverse ranges on the south, the Sierra Nevada on the werst, and the Great Basin on the east and north, and has been utilized by Native peoples since Paleoindian times. Occupation has varied through time due to population movements and resource variability, probably including climatic...
Trents Plantation Barbados: Some Comparisons of Data Analyzed Using DAACS and a Long Used Analysis System (2015)
As participants in the DRC we learned the DAACS database system and entered an initial group of 3000 data entries for Trents Plantation, Barbados. At Syracuse University we had been using a database using a combination of Access© and Excel© which had become cumbersome and was in need of being updated. DAACS and the DRC provided an opportunity to learn a new system and to collaborate with a group of colleagues, as well as to input on the new DAACS analysis system. This paper reviews our...
The Tres Alamos Site on the San Pedro River, Southeastern Arizona (1947)
The ruins lie on the east bank of the San Pedro River some twelve miles by road north of the town of Benson. At this point the river has started to cut into an erosion terrace or bench on which the ruins are located. This bench rises about one hundred to one hundred and fifty feet above the bed of the river, and is eroded by relatively short but deep and steep-banked gullies or arroyos into several tongues of land fanning out toward the river. Evidences of prehistoric occupation are found on the...
The Tres Rios Survey: An Archeological Survey of 700 Acres for the Proposed Tres Rios, Arizona Feasibility Study, Maricopa County (2002)
Proposed wetland restoration and flood control by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) associated with the north bank of the Salt River, near confluences of the Agua Fria and Gila rivers, requires the identification of cultural resources as laid out in Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The project area involves a wide, stable floodplain terrace below Frank Midvale’s Cashion Ruin. After the completion of a records search, archeologists from the Corps surveyed the...
Tri-Closure: A Quick And Easy Way To Create A Local Coordinate System For Underwater Photogrammetric Recording (2017)
To use 3-D photogrammetric models as scientific data, it is essential for archaeologists to use local coordinate systems to constrain their photogrammetric models to 1:1 scale. This enables archaeologists to take measurements directly from their models. Direct Survey Methods (DSM) are often used to create local coordinate systems; however, DSM often requires several days of diving operations, which may become problematic when recording large or deep-water sites. As a quick alternative method,...
The Trials of Trinité: the Discovery and Archaeological Potential of Jean Ribault’s 1565 Flagship (2020)
This is an abstract from the session entitled "From the Bottom Up: Socioeconomic Archaeology of the French Maritime Empire" , at the 2020 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology. With the 450th anniversary of French colonization at Fort Caroline (Jacksonville, Florida) in 2014, both state and LAMP archaeologists attempted searches to find the remains of Jean Ribault’s four shipwrecks. While these attempts were inconclusive, in 2016 a treasure hunting company found a...
