Analysis and Comparison of the Paleo-ecological Reconstruction of Simpson Springs to the Archaeological Record of Camels Back Cave in the Bonneville Basin of Utah (2023)
This is an abstract from the "SAA 2023: Individual Abstracts" session, at the 88th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology. We present a case study that utilizes paleoecological data to further our understanding of the archaeological record in the Bonneville basin of western Utah. We report paleoecological data from Simpson Springs, including pollen, charcoal, and elemental data. We provide the first pollen record from cultural sediments at Camels Back Cave. The data from the...
Analysis and Interpretation of Cannon Assemblages Near Carysfort Reef, Florida Keys (2020)
This is an abstract from the session entitled "Recent Development of Maritime and Historical Archaeology Programs in South Florida" , at the 2020 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology. Two assemblages of 18th century cannons lay on the seafloor near Carysfort Reef, in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. An underwater survey consisting of trilateration mapping, photogrammetry, and 3D modeling techniques was conducted at both sites. The shallow reef system that is...

Analysis of a Bayesian Network Methodology for Site Similarity Assessment (2023)
This is an abstract from the "The Expanding Bayesian Revolution in Archaeology" session, at the 88th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology. We present work on a methodology that sits at the intersection of architecture, archaeology, and Bayesian statistics to expand the quantity of architectural data considered in analysis of precontact architectures. Two sites are examined as possible precedents for Pueblo Bonito at Chaco Canyon, NM: the late ninth-century McPhee Pueblo in...

Archaeologists also recorded and systematically removed over 30 disarticulated timbers related to the pump well enclosure....
Analysis of an Obsidian Source from the Cougar Pass Region of the Absaroka Mountain Range (2017)
Obsidian samples from a variety of sites across Northwest Wyoming have been sourced using X-ray fluorescence and analyzed in order to determine the importance of a relatively unheard of source from the Cougar Pass region of the Absaroka Mountain Range. Artifacts manufactured with obsidian nodules from Cougar Pass have been found in archaeological contexts across Northwest Wyoming, extending as far as a presently unknown kilometer range from their source. The wide range of specimens from a...
Analysis of Ash and Slag Deposits at George Washington's Mount Vernon (2019)
This is an abstract from the "Meaning in Material Culture" session, at the 2019 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology. In 1987, two large features consisting primarily of slag, ash, charcoal, iron waste and trim, were excavated in the area known as the North Grove at George Washington’s Mount Vernon. An Analysis of Ceramic Imitation and Trade at the Petrified Forest National Park (2019)
This is an abstract from the "Archaeological Research in Petrified Forest National Park" session, at the 84th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology. The Petrified Forest National Park has a long range of occupation; however, the variety of artifacts present from these occupations makes it difficult to access the relationships early residents had with neighboring communities. Over the last decade, researchers have identified a diverse range of ceramics from across the...

Analysis of Human Hair Bands from Old Man Cave, Utah (2017)
In the early 1990s, excavations conducted at Old Man Cave in southeastern Utah unearthed various Basketmaker II materials, including an incredibly well-preserved bundle of burden bands made from human hair, dog hair, and yucca cordage. Radiocarbon dating places the manufacture of these textiles between 170 BC and AD 135. The bundle, when unfolded, contained a complex set of artifacts, including two smaller fragments that appear to be carrying bands, and another far more unique woven artifact....
