Pollen samples were collected stratigraphically from Zones A-E from Trench 16 on the coastal plain of the leeward coast of Saipan. Two sediment samples from the Chalan Monsignor Guerrero Phase III Roadway Expansion and Improvements Project (CMG) in Saipan were examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. Soil samples from the Garapan Project on the island of Saipan were examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. Marsh samples, bulk soil samples, and a known petroleum-contaminated sample were recovered from various trenches in the area. Pollen and macrofloral analyses were used to determine the effects of contamination on pollen and cultural remains, as well as identify evidence for typical wetland vegetation.

Six samples from two units along the beach fronting the village of Tanapag on the northwest side of Saipan were examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. These samples were recovered from an area where field tests showed positive results for PCBs. Pollen and macrofloral analyses functioned to provide a data base that will serve as a control for interpreting future samples from this area.

A single ceramic sherd was submitted for residue analysis from a site on Saipan's west coast. The residue from this sherd was removed at Paleo Research Institute and treated to recover phytoliths and starches that might reflect foods cooked in the vessel.
