POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM THE GARAPAN PROJECT, SAIPAN

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Kathryn Puseman

Year: 1995

Summary

Soil samples from the Garapan Project on the island of Saipan were examined

for pollen and macrofloral remains. Marsh samples, bulk soil samples, and a

known petroleum-contaminated sample were recovered from various trenches in the

area. Pollen and macrofloral analyses were used to determine the effects of

contamination on pollen and cultural remains, as well as identify evidence for

typical wetland vegetation.
