Three charcoal samples from the Birthday Site (41BS1914) in west Texas were submitted for identification and AMS radiocarbon dating. This site is a buried prehistoric campsite with numerous stone-lined hearths eroding from arroyo walls. Charcoal from the fill of a hearth at the David Williams Site, 41PS1020, was submitted for identification and AMS radiocarbon dating. This site is a buried open campsite located in west Texas. An adjacent hearth is dated at 7,000 CAL BP.
IDENTIFICATION OF CHARCOAL FROM THE AMPHITHEATER SITE, 41LU118, TEXAS (2001)
A total of 20 charcoal samples were submitted for wood identification from the Amphitheater Site (41LU118) in Yellowhouse Canyon, Lubbock, Texas. The site is geologically stratified, and samples were recovered from the uppermost two strata, which cover a time span from about 5,000 to 1,000 years ago. Charcoal samples were identified to determine types of wood burned as fuel at this site.
