Five bulk soil samples from Buckley Draw alluvial-fan deposits in southeast Provo, Utah, were floated to recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon analysis. These samples were examined as part of the Buckley Draw debris-flow study. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified in each sample, and potentially radiocarbon datable material was separated.
POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT THE GENEVA ROAD BURIAL SITE (42UT1222), PROVO, UTAH (2002)
Samples recovered from the Geneva Road Burial site (42UT1222) in Provo, Utah, were examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. This site consists of a shallow, slightly bell-shaped pit that contained a single set of juvenile human remains. Radiocarbon analysis of bone from the burial yielded a conventional radiocarbon age of 1180 ± 40 BP, with a two sigma calibrated age range of A.D. 770 to 970.
