Five pollen samples were submitted from Trench 5 and a Waterline Extension Trench in downtown Honolulu. The 801 South Street Building B project explores wetland deposits that existed prior to development of downtown Honolulu. Pollen analysis examines these deposits for evidence that they were either a natural wetland or were modified and functioned as a pondfield or fishpond.
POLLEN ANALYSIS OF A SINGLE SAMPLE FROM THE OAHU 6 PROJECT, HONOLULU, OAHU, HAWAI’I (2007)
A single pollen sample was collected at a depth between 1.6 and 1.8 m below the surface in an industrial area of Honolulu at the Makoloa Electrical substation on Makaloa Street. Pollen analysis was undertaken to provide information as to whether this area had functioned as a fishpond and whether or not it contained pollen from European-introduced plants.
