Sediment samples collected from 1997 University of Oregon summer field school excavations in the Fort Rock Basin at Sites 35LK2736, 1028-7PC, 1028-13DJ, 1028-14GP1, 1028-14GP2, and 1028-8USA were floated to recover charred macrofloral remains. Charcoal from these sites also was identified. Site 35LK2736 is located on the shore of Silver Lake, and diagnostic artifacts suggest that the site was occupied periodically throughout prehistory. Playa 9 is a complex of sites surrounding a tiny playa approximately 1.5 km south of Scott's village. Pollen and phytolith analysis examine hearth fill and structure floors from this area to identify evidence of subsistence activities. Occupations examined in this study range from 420 BP to 1300 BP.
