FEW 220 is one of five target houses at the end of a pre-1890s rifle target practice range associated with Fort D.A. Russell. These early Fort D.A. Russell target ranges are historically important sites. No historic evidence of their existence has yet been located. Further, they represent a very early style of formal U.S. Army firearms training ranges for which little historical and no archeological documentation has been provided within scholarly publications or reports.
