Four playa basins in the northern part of the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR))—Mud Lake, Kawich Lake, Gold Flat, and Stonewall Flat, contain modern dry lake playas. Three of these playas are rimmed by shoreline deposits that developed during wetter climatic conditions of the past, and the fourth playa contains fossils typically associated with wetlands environments.
