The Arctic Valley Ski Area includes the original location chosen by the Anchorage Ski Club and the US Army in the early 1940s and the adjacent location the Anchorage Ski Club moved to in 1952 to the north. When civilian skier use of the area exceeded the limits of the existing infrastructure, the Anchorage Ski Club moved up the valley and built its own lodge and rope tows.
